Matariki celebrations

For Matariki celebrations, each class was presented with a Maori medicial herb to look after. Room 10 received a kawakawa plant... did you know that it is a cousin of the Pacific kava plant?

After assembly we shared kai in the hall. Teachers and Garden to Table had made steamed pudding for everyone, yum. Next, we planted our kawakawa.

Did you know that early in the morning, people walked up to the top of Owairaka (Mt Albert) to see the seven Matariki stars at dawn? Come join us next year.
